More Excel Quiz Games

Okay, this will be my last post about Excel games until... whenever.

For those interested in learning Japanese, Hiragana is probably the best way to start. Details here.

I actually made the game for my son. (He speaks some Japanese and I am hoping he will learn to read it also). But all study and no play is boring, so I made another game about dinosaurs.

I loved dinosaurs as a kid (and still do in a nerdy way), so I didn't need to look up any of the descriptions - it's all been stored in the ol' memory banks for about 40 years or more :-)

(The pictures change according to the size of the dinosaur - not to scale, but for kids to get a feel for the difference between them)

While I was at it, I thought about making one for the girls (I know I'm being very politically incorrect but I'm too old to care). I know my friend's daughter likes princesses so I made this game too.

Writing about the princesses was much harder than the dinosaurs. Some I had never heard of, but no biggie - all of the information is online. Apologies in advance to those who artistic work I shamelessly "borrowed". My own drawing skill is "stickman" level :-(

(Warning, not all are princesses, at least one is a queen, and I might have inadvertently added a mere peasant or two?)

You can download the games below.

Next time, something a little more useful for everyday Excel?

See you next time.

AET Quiz

Here's a new flashcard style game I made. I use the term game loosely because it's more of an aid to study than anything else. Like Learn the flags, it allows you to click through a set questions and answers. The difference is that you can add, edit or delete the questions and answers yourself. (And you can always send a friend or students etc a set of questions and answers to memorize)

Learn mode (Sequential order)

Guess mode (Random order)

After a pause - the answer

As you can see the default questions I added are general knowledge...

Sometimes I have a "Chris Brown" moment...

Here's the download link.

Last night I made a yet another version. I'll upload it too in the near future.

See you next time.

Learn the flags

Ahoy there!

Last month I visited a naval base in Western Honshu (Japan). By "visit", I mean took a perfectly legal boat cruise around the habour and took photos that nobody arrested me for.

Anyway, in a nearby museum, I bought a souvenir towel with international maritime signal flags and, being weird, thought I'd like to make something in Excel to help remember them.

So I did. And here it is.

Learn mode (Sequential order)

Guess mode (Random order)

I even supplied the answers!

A note about Guess mode. Clicking the picture sets a timer that will show the answer (Slow = 4 seconds, Fast = 2 seconds) before showing the next picture to guess.

Here's the download link.

(I do realize there are other flags used, I'm just including the basic ones for now. And if you wish to change the answers to show different terminology, just change the ControlTipText of the controls on the ufAllFlags userform)

I'll be making variants of this, and other addins, in the near future.

See you next time.
